directions

Getting to Yell is easy – just head north and follow the signs to Toft – the ferry terminal. The ferries “Daggri” and “Dagalien” (Old norn for Dawn and Dusk) can carry 31 cars and 95 passengers on average. And they really do run from dawn till dusk – at approximately half hourly intervals – (click here for current ferry timetable ). The crossing takes around 20 minutes – just enough time for a coffee onboard.

Whilst on the ferries, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for lucky glimpses of cetaceans such as Orca, dolphins and porpoises. Also watch out for otters around all the ferry terminals – they are often seen swimming or even scampering about here.

To get to Gremister, follow the signs to Mid Yell for around 10 miles. You will come to a junction with an electricity substation on your left. It is signposted “Herra.” Turn in and just keep on going. Gremister is situated almost at the end of Da Herra road so it cannot be missed.

See Google map for Gremister’s location
NB Gremister is the house nearest the centre in the bend in the road.
