yell
Yell is the biggest island in Shetland, excluding the mainland. It is approximately 17 miles long by 7 miles wide and is almost cut in half by Whalfirth and Mid Yell Voes. There are about 1000 people living in Yell. It is often referred to as a gateway to the northern isles as you must cross Yell to access Unst and Fetlar.
amenities

There are four very well stocked shops in the island, where you can find almost anything you may need (This is true). There are no autotellers, so you should, ideally, bring cash from the mainland, although you will be able to get cashback using your card at all the shops.

Yell, like many of the other isles, boasts a leisure centre, complete with swimming pool, fitness suite and many facilities available for hire – plenty to do here in inclement weather! You can get petrol on the island and there are four post offices.
eating out

There are currently two places to eat, including the Hilltop Bar in Mid Yell and the Wind Dog Café . Both provide good meals and internet access is available at the Wind Dog.
